  1. Neither of these methods have worked for me. I’ve checked the date and time on the laptop and in the BIOS. I’ve tried importing a new copy of the GTE certificate yet still I have this error! This is on a laptop which I’ve just reinstalled with Win 7 32bit with sp1 and when I try to update it or activate windows I get the 80072f8f error. I’ve reinstalled again but still the issue occurs. I’m now going to reinstall a different machine with the same installation media (which has worked fine in the past) and see how I get on.

    1. @Cynthia: There may be a problem with the Root Certificate. Please go Here (You will have to use IE to access this link most likely)
Find the relevant version of your OS -> Click on Add
Select View basket in the right hand corner
Download the update and run the update.

Once installed restart the PC and try updates again

Thanks for the solution. This Error Code 80072f8f is somewhat complex to understand. I just updated my time settings and the fix didn’t work out. But when I did a scan of the files, it automatically restored the health. So we need to apply two fixes for the same Windows update problem.

Some Insiders have reported seeing this error “Some updates were cancelled. We’ll keep trying in case new updates become available” in Windows Update. If you encounter it, try deleting the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\RequestedAppCategories\8b24b027-XXXXX-XXXXXXX
Check the Error is fixed if it’s not then going the next method.
Solution 1. Reset the Windows update components manually

Could you guys please stop recommending articles every single paragraph? What an annoying read that was. That’s the reason people activate ad-blockers in the first place.

    1. Palla Sridhar says:

@Jorge. Its done. I removed the other 2 ads for better readibility.

      1. Jorge López says:

There is still way too much “recommended” and “related” links between the paragraphs. Why would you even do that? Just put them at banners at the side or at the end of the lecture, not between it.

        1. Palla Sridhar says:

@Jorge: I removed all “text” ad links, leaving only one. The other links are “true” links to other posts of my site, which would be useful for readers and also important from SEO point of view. Hope you understand. 🙂
