In every nook and corner of the world, Internet users are opening up websites for various reasons. They can be social networking, discussion forums, blogging, e-commerce and business reasons. You have different domain registry services like GoDaddy, Name.com, WhoIs.com etc who are accredited ICANN registrars, who register your .com,.net,.org etc domains for $10 less or more.
But is the domain registration sufficient? No. You also need a web space hosting provider to host your website. So the two things you need to start a web site are – domain registration and hosting provider. Some people use the same company to do both the things while some prefer doing it on alternate brands.
So whatever the choice you use, you are ready to go with your website. Now-a-days almost all domain service providers provide free domain email. You get professional email addresses with every domain you buy. Isn’t this a nice opportunity to brand your business or personal charisma on the Internet?
Coming to myself, I use HostGator as a hosting service provider and Name.com for domain registration. After buying the domain name, you need to enter Name-Servers details which will link-up your “Domain IP Address” to the hosting server. This finalizes your website setup and you are ready to go.
Now you can install various templates and design your website as you like. You can also install blogging platforms like WordPress, Tumblr, Drupal etc and write content giving your opinions. With these facilities you can also get a personalized email address free of costto share with your business clients or friends.
In this article we are going to see about the connection between HostGator, Windows Live Mail 2012 and Windows 8.1.
How to Create a Domain Email in HostGator?
First of all open up your cPanel account, using a link like – https://gatorxxxx.hostgator.com/cpanel which you are given after buying their web hosting package. You need to enter the username and password, which are provided by HostGator.
As you can see above, under the Mail section, you can see Email accounts. Clicking on it will take you to the next page, where you can create your personal email address.
In this area, you can manage your email accounts associated with your domains. You need to fill some text-boxes with your preferred data like email@example.com and password. The domain name is already pre-populated beside Email text-box. There will be more than 1 domain names, if you have hosting different web-sites. You also need to select the amount of disk-quota required for your domain email account. There are 2 choices in HostGator – A value for your disk-space on the hosting server and Unlimited.
Then click on “Create Account“. This should create your own domain email address. The next important thing in this task of domain email management is “how to view email” ? For this you require an email client like Windows Live Mail. Though with HostGator, you can read email with in-built services like Horde, RoundCube, SquirrelMail, there are advantages using popular email clients like Thunderbird, WLM and Outlook.
Once your email gets created, it’s listed below, in the same web-page .
Now there are two options for reading your personalized domain email. You can either access webmail using the in-house options mentioned above or use a mail client. To access these options, you need to click the drop-down of the “More” button.
How To Configure Windows Live Mail 2012 for Domain Email?
The process is very simple. Upon clicking the “More” drop-down, you will get “Configure Email client” options. Upon clicking that option, you will be taken to the next screen.
Here, you can see there are lot of auto-configuration script options for different email clients. Windows Live Mail is one. In the Protocols tab, there are different ways of connecting your private email with your mail client. I prefer the POP3 over SSL/TLS method. Just click that label and a small-screen pops-up.
As you can see the content of this pop-up, this script will automatically configure Windows Live Mail with the correct settings for POP3 over SSL/TLS. The other details can be read from the pop-up. Click on the “Proceed” button.
This will download a small .vbs file which is nothing but a “VBScript Script file“. You can download to your computer and run it with administrator privileges. This will automatically configure your Windows Live Mail client.
Note : Your WLM (Windows Live Mail) need to be closed during the script operation.
Once this process is completed, WLM automatically opens up displaying any recent mail in the Inbox.
So this concludes the personal email management using HostGator services and Email Tool like Windows Live Mail. If you are using another email client, not listed on the HostGator mail client configuration page, you can use the Manual settings provided on the same page.
I’ll explain these settings in another article.
