“Exchange ActiveSync” Introduced in the New Outlook.com App for Android Devices

Outlook Blog recently released an excited announcement regarding major upgrade to the Outlook.com app for Android devices. It provides a number of new features and entire modification of the user interface. Steve Kafka believes that the best mobile experience is enabled through Exchange ActiveSync. This service protocol provides a rich, powerful, network-optimized experience for Windows Phone, iOS and other mobile devices.

You can install this new updated app from Google Play Store.

Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) 14.1 came as part of Exchange Server 2010 SP1. This version of the protocol added GAL photos(images stored in an Active Directory server of the user who has sent the email), Message Diffs (a means of sending only the new portion of an email and avoiding redundant information), added device/user information to the provision command so that the new Allow/Block/Quarantine feature could more easily allow administrators to control which devices connected to their organizations, and Information Rights Management (IRM) over EAS (a method to apply digital rights management control and encryption to email messages that are sent and received).

However, native support for Exchange ActiveSync on Android devices varies significantly and so Microsoft build a separate app to ensure as many people as possible can have a great Outlook.com experience across all their devices.

What are the Key Features ?

– New intuitive design, look and feel
– Get emails right away with push notifications
– Sync with your device Calendar and Contacts
– View and sync standard and custom folders, including sub-folders
– Group your email conversations with Conversation Threading
– Send, receive, and view photos and other attachments
– Easy to use search functionality
– Use with multiple Outlook.com accounts
