Wrench Icon in Google Chrome is gone!
Did you notice it!
The default way of changing settings and accessing extensions was using the wrench icon in Chrome browser.
It used to be present on the far right hand side to the address bar.
Now it’s been replaced with 3 horizontal lines called the “Hotdog” icon.
I’m presently using Version 24.0.1297.0 developer version of Google Chrome.
In that I can see the new “Hotdog” icon replacing the wrench icon.
Let’s see what is possible if you click the earlier version of wrench icon.
As you can see in the screenshot the following options are available.
- New tab
- …. window
- New incognito window
- Bookmarks
- Edit
- Zoom
- Save page as…
- Find…
- Print…
- Tools
- History
- Downloads
- Sign in to Chrome
- About Google Chrome
- View background pages
- Help
- Exit
I’ll explain some the unknown things here.
When you click “New Incognito window”, a new window will open. The pages you view in this mode or window won’t appear in your browser history or search history. They won’t leave any traces of cookies after you close all open incognito windows. The other details can be seen in this screenshot which opens upon first clicking of the incognito window.
When you move your mouse over “Bookmarks” it shows up more options.
You can use the Bookmark manager to organize your bookmarks. You can also create folders, re-arrange them etc using this option. Just like the Bookmarks drop down options, Tools also has some exciting features.
You can view the different kind of extensions, clear browsing data, report an issue using this option.
These are some of the settings you get under the replaced wrench icon in Google Chrome. Let me know if you find any other interesting options with a new version.
password and wallet options is obscured by cookies.
how to get rid of cookies.
i also did not find wrench in my google crome.
I was about to say didn’t have that but its in real small blue letters at the very bottom of the settings page. I was thinking I had defective software 😀 thank you
I can’t seem to change where the Google Chrome places downloads anymore with this new Hotdog, was thinking of going back to older version but I’m just inexperienced on this one more likely
@ Ryan Buchholz: This option is under hotdog > Settings > Show Advanced Settings. It’s just hidden under that advanced settings. You just go through the settings page you will get it.
How do I change web content font size?
@Ron Sharbono: You can use Ctrl Scroll of mouse to zoom in and out. Also there is a Zoom feature when you click “Hot dog” icon. Either way you can increase decrease font size of a website. Thanks 🙂
